class=\"art\">\n<div class=\"blk narrow rv\"><div class=\"prose\"><h2>Not just the sea<\/h2><p>Cefal\u00f9 is famous for its beaches, but behind it rise the <strong>Madonie<\/strong> mountains: forests, mountain villages and peaks that turn white in winter. In half an hour by car you go from the sea to another world. Here are the outings we love most.<\/p><p>Our starting point is <a href=\"https:\/\/hotelkalura.com\/en\/\">Hotel Kalura<\/a>, on Kalura Bay just outside Cefal\u00f9: the Rocca rises right behind it and the Madonie are half an hour away by car. If you prefer two wheels, you can hire a bike at the <a href=\"https:\/\/hotelkalura.com\/en\/bike-station\/\">Kalura Bike Station<\/a>, which also runs guided tours.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"blk narrow rv\"><div class=\"prose\"><h2>The Rocca of Cefal\u00f9<\/h2><p>The classic: from the old town a path climbs up the Rocca, the headland that towers over the town. On the way up you pass ancient walls and the so-called <strong>Temple of Diana<\/strong>; at the top, the remains of the castle and a view that takes in the Cathedral, the rooftops and the sea. It takes about an hour \u2013 best early in the morning or late in the afternoon in summer. Check the trail\u2019s opening hours before you go.<\/p><h2>Sanctuary of Gibilmanna<\/h2><p>In the hills above Cefal\u00f9, surrounded by forest, the sanctuary is a starting point for walks among chestnut and holm oak trees, with views of the coast.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"blk rv\"><div class=\"cols\"><div class=\"stack\"><div class=\"prose\"><h3>The Madonie Park<\/h3><p>A nature park with some of the highest peaks in Sicily, such as <strong>Pizzo Carbonara<\/strong>, and plateaus such as <strong>Piano Battaglia<\/strong>.
