Ideal for salads and herbs.<\/li><li><strong>DWC (Deep Water Culture)<\/strong>: roots hang in a tank of water oxygenated by an air pump.<\/li><li><strong>Kratky method<\/strong>: the simplest, with no pumps. A container, water with nutrients and a lid with net pots.<\/li><\/ul><h2>What you need to get started<\/h2><ul><li>seeds (lettuce, rocket and basil are perfect to begin with);<\/li><li>rockwool cubes or sponges for germination;<\/li><li>net pots and a container or channel system;<\/li><li>hydroponic nutrients and a pH meter;<\/li><li>plenty of light: a very bright window or a grow lamp.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><div class=\"blk narrow rv\"><div class=\"prose\"><h2>From seed to salad, step by step<\/h2><ol><li><strong>Germination<\/strong>: sow in the moist cubes. After a few days the sprouts appear.<\/li><li><strong>Transplanting<\/strong>: when the roots come out of the cube, move the seedlings into the system.<\/li><li><strong>Growth<\/strong>: regularly check water level, nutrients and pH (for salads usually between 5.5 and 6.5).<\/li><li><strong>Harvest<\/strong>: after about four weeks the salad is ready.
