Products to avoid
Because of microplastics.
We all know the subject: microplastics. But do we even know why it is dangerous?
Microplastics are plastic particles from 0.1 micrometers to 5 millimeters in size. Smaller particles are referred to as nanoplastics. Nanoplastics are even more dangerous because they can enter our cells. We now know that microplastcs can lead to cancer, infertility, stomach disorders and many diseases. It therefore makes sense to protect oneself against them in the best possible way. But how?
On average, a person consumes plastic in the size of a credit card every week. Yes exactly…you have read correctly…A CREDIT CARD. That’s quite a lot when you think about it.
Most microplastcs are consumed through food and liquids. What can you do about it?
Avoid plastic products that come into contact with your food or liquids.
Here are a few products listed you can avoid:
Plastic bottles are one of the worst disposable objects. In most countries around the world, plastic bottles are only used once and then thrown away. 1 million plastic bottles are produced EVERY MINUTE. Only 7% are reused or recycled. Many of them end up in our seas and finally the microplastic ends up on our plates. Before the plastic bottle is disposed of, microplastics dissolve in the liquid and end up in your body. Especially if the plastic bottle is in the blazing sun, because the microplastics will dissolve more easily.
What can you do about it? Very simple: Buy glass bottles or use a metal bottle that you can refill over and over again.
Every year 10 billion plastic straws are used only in Germany! Many finish in our oceans and have become the ultimate sea animal killers.
What can you do about it? Quite simple: renounce straws. And if that’s not possible, we still have a second solution: metal straws.
What’s the first thing you touch every morning? Exactly, your toothbrush. Do you want plastic to be the first thing you touch every morning?
Plastic toothbrushes are difficult to recycle because they are made of different plastics. This is also a reason why they end up on beaches in the Pacific or in our oceans.
What can you do about it? It’s simple: get a bamboo toothbrush and make sure the toothbrush, including bristles, is fully biodegradable.
Food that is wrapped in plastic
OMG, this is really a sad thing. In the supermarket there are now the craziest products packed in plastic. Next time you go to the supermarket, pay attention to how many products are packed in plastic.
What can you do about it? Try to buy products that are wrapped in as little plastic as possible or none. Buy your fruit, fish or meat at the market or from the butcher. Another option is to shop in “No Waste Supermarkets”. Unfortunately, these are not yet so widespread and therefore there are very few of them.
Cosmetics/Toothpaste with Microplastics
Cosmetics and toothpaste are full of plastics. It’s almost impossible to buy cosmetics without microplastics in it. 2% of the world wide microplastic pollution is caused of the micro plastics in the cosmetics and toothpaste.
Unfortunately, it is really difficult to find suppliers who offer plastic-free cosmetics & toothpaste and are close to you. So you can buy your cosmetics & toothpaste online, or even make them yourself for your use. There are great websites on the internet that show you how to do it.
