Camping sauna tent: the buying guide
How many people, which fabric, what kind of stove? What to look for before buying a mobile sauna tent – for the lake, the garden or winter events.
What is a sauna tent?
A sauna tent is a mobile sauna: an insulated tent in which you light a wood stove. It goes up quickly and brings heat wherever you need it – on the lakeshore after a cold-water swim, in a mountain meadow, in the garden or at an event with friends. Here are the criteria that really matter.
1. Size: for how many people?
Think about how you will use it. For a couple, a single model is enough; for groups, swimming clubs or events you need more space. A double tent with two connected modules comfortably fits 8–10 people and lets everyone sit without squeezing together.
2. Fabric and insulation
This is the heart of the tent: the better the fabric holds the heat, the less wood you burn and the faster it warms up. Look for a quilted multi-layer fabric with a tough outer layer (for example Oxford 210D) and insulating padding inside.
3. The stove
A stainless steel wood stove copes well with heat and weather. The glass door isn’t just beautiful: it lets you check the flame without opening it. Make sure the tent has a dedicated, protected opening for the chimney pipe.
4. Ventilation and safety
With a wood stove in an enclosed space, ventilation is essential. You need adjustable vents, which should always be open during use, and a chimney with a spark arrestor. And one rule that isn’t up for debate: never leave the fire unattended.
Transparent windows let the light in and let you look out at the lake while you stay warm.

5. Transport and setup
A chimney pipe made of slot-together segments is easy to assemble and dismantle and takes up little space. Also consider the total weight and who will carry it: for a club or association, a sturdy model built for frequent use is worth it.
6. Shipping and delivery times
Quality sauna tents are often not kept in stock. Check delivery times and shipping costs before you plan your winter.
