Hiking on the Etna Volcano

Etna: Europe's Most Active Volcano

Mount Etna, one of Europe's most active volcanoes, towers at an altitude of 3320 metres. Its grandeur and the surrounding landscape offer a unique experience for those seeking adventure and connection with nature. Our programme includes 3 days and 2 nights of intense exploration on the mountain, fully immersing ourselves in the volcanic environment.

The Beginning of the Adventure: Piano Provenzana

We started our route from Piano Provenzana, with our rucksacks full of provisions and equipment. The trail proved to be a challenge from the start: the cold wind and snow made it difficult to see the road. Passing through landscapes dotted with small volcanic craters, we found ourselves in a snowy forest on the north side of the volcano. After a few hours of walking, we reached Rifugio Timparossa, our refuge for the first night.
Despite the bitter cold, a small wood-burning oven offered us shelter from the frost. However, during the night the fire went out, waking us up early the next morning due to the low temperatures.

Towards the Galvarina Refuge

After a quick breakfast, we resumed our walk southwards, heading for Rifugio Sapienza. We passed through dense forests and snow-covered meadows, surrounded by the silence of nature. Arriving at Rifugio Galvarina, we immediately lit a fire and devoted ourselves to a moment of introspection and practice of the Wim Hof Method.

The afternoon flew by, but the highlight came as darkness fell: from the refuge we watched the eruptions of Mount Etna, with the sky turning red with each explosion. It was a magical, almost surreal moment, reminding us of the power of nature.

The Return

The following morning greeted us with a snowstorm. Despite the adverse conditions, the return journey was easier than expected, enriched by the excitement and memories of the two nights spent on the volcano.

Discover the Wim Hof Method on Etna

During this adventure, we had the opportunity to practice the Wim Hof Method, a combination of controlled breathing, cold exposure and meditation that helped us connect with ourselves and overcome our limitations.

If you would like to experience something similar and discover how to deal with physical and mental challenges, you can join our Wim Hof Method course. Join us and get ready to experience the power of nature and your body!
