Zipline in San Mauro Castelverde: 1,600 metres at 130 km/h over the Madonie
A steel cable 1.6 km long, nothing beneath your feet and wind in your face at up to 130 km/h. Our ride on the San Mauro Castelverde zipline, in the heart of the Madonie mountains.
Flying over the Madonie
San Mauro Castelverde is a small village perched in the eastern Madonie, not far from Cefalù. From here starts one of the most spectacular ziplines in Sicily: 1,600 metres of cable suspended over the valley, on which you can reach 130 km/h.
We tried it, camera in hand. The verdict: an absolute must.

What the ride is like
They clip you into the harness, you lie almost face down and then… off you go. The first seconds are pure adrenaline, then comes the wonder: forests, valleys and, on clear days, the sea on the horizon. A minute or so you won’t forget.
Practical tips
- Book in advance, especially in summer and at weekends.
- Check the weather: in strong wind the zipline may be closed.
- Check the weight and age requirements before you go.
- Closed shoes and nothing in your pockets.
- Glasses well secured: at 130 km/h the wind is merciless.
- A jacket: it’s cooler up in the mountains than on the coast.
